What Polished Concrete Actually Is

Polished concrete isn't a product applied on top of the slab — it's the slab itself, mechanically ground through progressively finer diamond abrasives and treated with a chemical densifier that hardens the surface from within. The result is a dense, light-reflective floor that's part of the concrete rather than a layer bonded to it.

Why That Matters Here

There's nothing to delaminate. In a climate where thermal cycling and hot tire pickup are the primary causes of coating failure, a floor with no coating to release has a meaningful structural advantage. Polished concrete cannot peel because there's no film to peel.

It eliminates dusting. Bare concrete in this dry inland climate sheds fine dust continuously. Densifying and polishing seals the surface and stops it.

Extremely long service life with minimal maintenance — typically just cleaning and periodic re-burnishing.

Where It Works

Warehouses and distribution facilities, retail, showrooms, restaurants and breweries, offices, and modern residential interiors. It's especially strong in large commercial spaces where the cost of coating and eventually recoating a very large floor area is significant.

Stained Concrete

Acid stains and dyes add color that penetrates the concrete rather than sitting on it, producing variegated, translucent, stone-like effects. It can be combined with polishing, or sealed for exterior applications. Because staining reacts with the concrete's own mineral content, results vary by slab — which is part of the appeal, but means samples matter.

Polished vs. Coated

Choose polished for large commercial floors, when maximum longevity matters, when a floor cannot be taken out of service repeatedly, or where dusting is the main complaint.

Choose coated when you need specific chemical resistance, a particular color or decorative finish, maximum slip resistance, or when the existing slab is too damaged to polish well.
